Starring: Claire Foy, Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharoah, Juno Temple
Director: Steven Soderbergh Runtime: 1 hour, 38 minutes Drama | Horror | Suspense | Thriller | 2018 I really wanted to see this movie particularly because I had heard it was filmed entirely from an iPhone. Was this true? Well, according to many articles I just read (or skimmed through) it's true, but you can't tell from watching the movie. And those points that you can tell, it makes the film that much more real. The main character (played by Claire Foy) is basically being stalked. What more real way can you portray that than to make it look like the stalker is literally videoing her during her everyday life? As for the story itself, I thought it was well thought out. Basically, for a little synopsis if you don't know anything about the film, Sawyer (Claire Foy) accidentally get thrown into a mental institution where she is confronted by her greatest fear. The film dances around the fact that Sawyer may or may not be A) Hallucinating and B) actually crazy. And to be honest, I thought the filmmakers did an excellent job at teetering on the line for the audience. There are many movies I've seen that don't do a good job in explaining or making it a least a little prominent whether or not the character is loosing her mind or not, but this one does it well. It even leaves you asking yourself was it real in the end, but without pissing me off. I thought Claire Foy was excellent in this film. And I thought all the supporting actors were great too, though none of them get enough screen time to really impact the movie, with the exception of Joshua Leonard, Sawyer's stalker. And can I just say, it was a pleasant surprise to see Matt Damon in that one scene, totally didn't expect that or for him to be in such a small role but it was nice. Overall, I enjoyed this movie and will give it a "Liked It." If you haven't seen it yet, and like psychological thriller/suspense movies that I definitely would suggest this one to you. (4/5).
