Starring: Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson, Bailee Madison, Lewis Pullman
Director: Johannes Roberts Runtime: 1 hour, 25 minutes Horror | 2018 So I watched the original Strangers movie earlier this year and hated it. Not sure why I chose this movie as my "non-themed horror pick" for this month, but I did and here we are. The new version of The Strangers is much, much better than the original. There are no annoying women whining the entire time and there is more than just a house for the scenes. It has the same bad guys with masked on trying to kill a family of four, who are the only ones in this trailer park on a lake (has a Crystal Lake from Friday the 13th feel to it). Christina Hendricks and Martin Henderson play the parents of Kinsey (Bailee Madison) and Luke (Lewis Pullman). If you've seen The Strangers, the plot line isn't much different than that. Three masked people try to kill this family for fun as the teenagers and their parents run trying to save themselves. SPOILERS The thing I liked about this movie was that it didn't end like the original. Kinsey and Luke are able to kill their attackers and actually get someone to help them get to safety. Unfortunately, the parents die in the film. Hendricks dies almost immediately and Henderson not as quick, but pretty sadly. The killers in this version don't play with them as much like in the original, which to me is more thrilling to watch the cat and mouse game. Much like Kristy which I reviewed a few months ago. END SPOILERS I thought this film had good thrills and just the right amount of chills. I'm going to give it a "Liked it" rating. I really enjoyed the ending and would recommend it over the original movie any day. I would probably even watch it again. (4/5).
