I remember watching this movie’s original counterpart before this website thing started, because David told me I had to. It was a classic right? Well I agree with him, I enjoyed the original movie from the late 80s starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and I was excited to see this new version which I had assumed would be a remake. In fact, it isn’t a remake. It’s much like the Halloween movie that came out just last year as well, a sequel that’s 30 years in the making.
The aliens come back to Earth and encounter new faces. Quinn (Boyd Holbrook) and Casey (Olivia Munn) are the leading characters in this film with the help of Jacob Tremblay who plays his son. Quinn finds the predator in the woods just like Arnold’s character did 30 ish years ago, but this time it’s evident that the government is trying to cover it up. When the predator wreaks havoc on the town to come after Quinn’s son, the movie turns into a deadly chase to win.
I can’t say I loved this movie by any means, but it was full of action and explosions. I didn’t feel like it was a waste of time, but I’d pick the original movie over this one any day. I liked Olivia Munn in her role as the badass scientist with a gun and I also enjoyed the final end scenes with them back in the woods. I’ll give this movie a “liked it.” (3/5).
