I’ve been looking forward to seeing this movie since the first time I saw the trailers. They were hilarious. But of course, the funny parts in the trailer were really the only funny parts in the movie - funny how that happens right? Still, it wasn’t a bad movie whatsoever, I really enjoyed it. Basically, it’s the story of Batman, who accidentally adopts a boy from the orphanage, who then becomes Robin. Also, the new police commissioner is Batman’s love interest and later becomes Batgirl. Well, being Batman (Lego Batman, his personality from The Lego Movie makes him arrogant yet funny about it) he decides to make it his ambition to send Joker to the place where Superman sends all his foes. Of course this backfires on him and all the monsters end up being released back onto Earth. The three plue his butler must work together to save the world and stop all the monsters.

The animation in this film is nothing different than the original Lego Movie. It has the fighting and the fake explosions and the fast paced scenes that make it watchable and entertaining. I for one am glad that there were no “humans” in this particular movie, that wasn’t my favorite thing about the original. But there is the stereotypical character development for Batman in this movie. He adopts this boy who at first wants nothing to do with. Then he figures out to use him as a pawn in his crime fighting endeavors. Then he grows fond of him and won’t let him fight the bad guys, all going up to the ultimate sacrifice for his “son.” Pretty predictable, but still a good watch.

The relationship between Batman and the Joker was a strange one. It was being portrayed like they were supposed to be soulmates - in the sense that they are arch enemies - and the whole reason the Joker was executing his evil plot was to make Batman realize this. A tad strange, but actually a bit amusing as well. One thing I loved about this film was the music. It was so upbeat and face paced, the type of music that makes you want to dance. That’s my favorite type of music. Oh and there’s no “Everything is Awesome” song in this film. Thank goodness, that ear worm should die.

Overall, The Lego Batman Movie was a good watch. It wasn’t as good as I’d hope for, but that could be because I was just so excited to watch it that I blew it out of proportion a little bit. I’m going to give this film a “Liked It’’ rating. I would say it’s better than the original film, but not as funny or clever. I guess it’s hard to be creative when you’re basing a movie off comic book heroes.
