Stumbled across this movie while trying to track down another film of the same name for pirates week. Read the synopsis and saw two names I had heard of so thought, why not add it to the list? Well I have mixed feelings about this film. On one hand it's a good story backbone with an interesting dystopian way of life. But on the other hand it's just not a well made movie. You know when you watch a movie and you can tell that it's most likely a low budget movie? Well this is one of those movies, but from 2005 so you can tell even more.

With all that aside though, let me talk about the movie itself and the story of it. Scarlett Johansson and Ewan McGregor star in this dystopian movie. They are residents in this safe haven - the world has grown awful and all the humans have parished - in hopes that they will be sent to The Island, a safe and infection free place to be. Prettt quickly we find out that they aren't being told the truth about where they are and what the Island actually is. The people living there are actually artificial humans/clones whose only purpose is to keep their real humans alive longer (they are grown for body parts).

Well needless to say the two lead characters escape and try to find all the answers and a way to both live in the real world and save the others on the compound. It was an interest watch don't get me wrong, and there are plenty of scenes that were action packed and exciting. The way it was filmed though deterred me from liking it so much more.

I do not know that much about Scarlett's career, but if I had to guess I'd say that this was probably one of her first movies before she really made a name for herself, or perhaps it's just not a great movie. This is one of those movies that you would think to be based on a book, but it's not (in case you were wondering). Watching Jordan and Lincoln go out into the world and the expressions with all this new experiences was neat. It reminded me a lot of other films of this type. Overall I can't say that it's a terrible movie, but I'd give it just an "okay" rating.
