Starring: Aaron Moorhead, Justin Benson, Callie Hernandez
Director: Justin Benson Runtime: 1 hour, 51 minutes Fantasy | Horror | Sci-Fi | Thriller | 2017 A movie about UFO death cult. Sounds interesting enough. Two brothers who were able to leave the cult decide to go back “just to visit.” Needless to say some things start to happen and it’s only slightly evident what you’re actually watching. One of the brothers feels safe and comfortable in the confines of the camp while the other truly believes that they are being brainwashed. When one of them decides to leave without the other, the truth about the camp starts to come to light. SPOILERS Basically, the entire camp is stuck in a time loop. Some are shorter than others, like the poor man in the tent stuck in a 2 minute time loop. Others are longer, like the one with the two men in a house that later gets set afire. And then there’s the time loop of the actual camp, with the end scene being the end and actually showing what it means when you say “UFO death cult.” The one thing I don’t totally get is if the two main characters are stuck in a loop or not. END SPOILERS I feel like this is one of the films that leaves the ending to interpretation of the viewer. Honestly, I’m not sure I like that because I love it when a film ties it back up in a bow in the end. But for the sense of how things ended I’m going to go ahead and think it ended just fine. I did enjoy the later parts of the movie when they are in the wilderness looking to get back to the car, and ultimately the race against the clock in the end. It reminded me a lot of LOST while they were walking in the desert and coincidentally I watched Thor: The Dark World the same weekend and that too was a reminder of some aspects in this film. I wouldn’t go out on a limb to say that I liked this movie, but it wasn’t terrible. I would give it an okay rating right down the middle of the range. (2.5/5).
