Starring: Kurt Russell, Michael Angarano, Danielle Panabaker Director: Mike Mitchell Runtime: 1 hour, 40 minutes Adventure | Comedy | Family | Superhero | 2005 Watching this movie for the website really led me to notice that I’ve only ever seen this film when it was airing on the Disney channel. That being said, some of the scenes were still new to me, which is pretty cool. (The same thing happened to me when I watched Grease on DVD for the first time as opposed to ABC Family… so many cut scenes!). Sky High is about teenagers who are children of superheroes, and are attending high school to learn to hone their powers as well as deal with typical high school stuff. For the most part, I find this film fun to watch. It has the majority of what you would find in a movie about teenagers getting through high school: young love, heartbreak, bullies, etc. But the superhero portion of it was just icing on the cake. Michael Angarano plays Will, the lead character in the film. A teenager who is the son of two of the greatest superheroes… that hasn’t gotten his powers yet. Kurt Russell plays his father and Danielle Panabaker is Layla, his best friend and ultimately the love interest portion of the story. The acting was what you would expect from a family fun Disney movie and the effects weren’t bad for a movie that came out almost 13 years ago now. I’m going to give this film a “Liked It” rating. If you haven’t watched it with your family, I suggest that you do that. It’s fun and the laffy taffy jokes are great. (4/5).
