It's definitely evident that this movie was filmed in 2005. It has the same feel of it as The Island did, and some of the older Star Wars movies (the ones no one talks about). But this film has some good plot lines and good action sequences and good science fiction. Nathan Fillion plays Mal, the pilot of Serenity spaceship. He's taken on some new passengers, one of which is telepathic and wanted by the Alliance (this is River, played by Summer Glau). Even though Mal isn't really about helping others, he develops a kin to River and her brother and the team decides to help them out.
They need to find out what River knows (that she can't remember from the time she was being held captive) and deliver the message to the universe. The arch enemy is an assassin played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. His task is to kill River before she can remember or spread the news of what the Alliance did.
Now, the acting in this movie isn't the greatest. But the action scenes are really what get me this time. Grievers (ha, just like The Maze Runner except actual people) are killing and eating people. The main characters deliver their lines adequately, but some relationships don't seem to pan out on screen as I'm sure they should to better the story.
I'm going to give this film a "liked it" because it was fun to watch, but that's about all good I can say for the movie. I'd watch it again... perhaps a remake? And did Nathan Fillion take all his colleagues over to that Firefly show? I miss him in Castle. I loved that show. Sigh, when will something else good on TV start? I'm out of shows to follow...
There's also a new movie coming out this year with the same name... has nothing to do with space, but still sounds interesting. Maybe DFP will be able to check it out!
