Starring: Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass, Jake Johnson, Karan Soni Director: Derek Connolly Runtime: 1 hour, 26 minutes Comedy | Drama | Romance | 2012 Warning. This movie is NOT a comedy. I honestly have no idea how IMDB can deem this movie as a comedy. Perhaps because the main characters are all played by comedians? I was a little excited for this movie after reading the synopsis and seeing who all was in it. Aubrey Plaza… I love love love her in Parks and Recreation. Mark Duplass… I love love love him in Creep. And Jake Johnson… I love love love him in New Girl. So WTF? I hate hate hate this movie. First of all. So completely boring. Is that what is supposed to be funny about it? You have Plaza playing the young woman wanting to go back in time with Duplass. The two eventually fall in love, if you can even call it that. It’s not your typical Rom Com where you can FEEL the love in the end of the movie. The entire thing felt like a satire (which honestly it probably was and that’s why it’s a comedy) but it just wasn’t a good one. Second. Johnson plays this awful man who’s only goal is to sleep with his high school sweetheart. And Karan Soni’s character is just a dweeb that Johnson wants to get laid. I don’t really think there was a reason for this movie to be rated-R… just wanted to throw that out there. The whole making a time machine thing and not knowing if he was crazy or just passionate was the only thing this movie had going for it. And the ONLY thing I can say I didn’t hate was the ending. Particularly the faces of Johnson, Soni, and the top secret CIA operatives (I have no idea if they were CIA, I’m just pretending here) right before the credits started to roll. This movie was awfully boring and not worth the watch even though it has a fairly short run time. I give it a Hated It and it’s such a shame because I think this could have been a lot better. (0/5).
