Animated | Family | Action | 2016

For an animated movie that has some well known actors doing the voices, you’d think that I would have heard of this movie before watching it. Also, for an animated movie with well known people voicing and being based off a video game, you’d think it’d be good. Ratchet and Clank wasn’t anything spectacular. Now, I know it’s not fair to compare a movie to Dreamworks or Pixar, but it’s a little hard not too. On one hand you have Dreamworks that makes animated films specifically for children that have fun storylines, and on the other hand you have Pixar that includes fabulous animated cinematography that focuses both on children and adults. Ratchet and Clank is kind of in the middle of these two.

I felt like this movie couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a children’s movie, a video game story, or just something else. I will say, the reason I love animated movies mostly, is there wasn’t any comedic aspects at all. I love hearing lame one-liner jokes geared towards making children laugh, I guess that’s just my sense of humor. This film didn’t really have any of that.
The villains in this film weren’t very convincing, as there wasn’t much time used to set up their character development. There wasn’t even really that much time spent on a growing friendship between Ratchet and Clank. All of a sudden they meet and then they are helping save the universe.

I didn’t feel like there was much to this movie. Though I’m aware that this is a children’s movie and is only an hour and half long, I still would have liked to see more character development in the story. Perhaps the writers just assumed everyone would be familiar with the video game characters. I’m going to give this film an “okay” rating, because I don’t feel like it was a waste of time to watch. I wouldn’t watch it again or recommend it, unless you’re into the whole Ratchet and Clank franchise already. (2/5)
