I think I’m getting to the point now where a lot of these movies are just pissing me off so much that I end up hating them and feel like I’m wasting my time with them. I’m also getting to the point where I don’t want to watch movies unless they are ones I actually care to see. As for Poltergeist, I’ve seen the remake of it from just a few years ago. And I remember not hating it but also not thinking too highly of it. But since we are still trolling through these eighties movies, I thought let’s add a horror movie in there, because I can usually bare through them.
Well, I was doing good for the most part. It was entertaining with the little girl (played by Heather O’Rourke) and the fun spirited attitude the mother and daughter had towards the “TV people” moving things at first. Honestly, it was a little creepy coming from a movie with such little ability to create special effects compared to now.
But after the scene with the parents, little boy, and the medium (that’s what I’m calling her) whispering for 15 straight minutes I began to get annoyed with everything and just wanted to stop watching.
There are several parts of the film that I thought did not need to be in there, and I felt like every single scene was drawn out unnecessarily. At one point I yelled at the television for her to just go into the damn closet because it took her so long to do so. Jesus, that’s enough tension for me. No sense in turning this film that SHOULD be 1 hour 30 minutes into a closer to 2 hour movie. Goodness!
The ending was strange. It felt like Beetlejuice with the grounds like that. And though it makes sense for the storyline, I don’t remember it being in the new version and didn’t think it was worth the extra scenes.
I’m going to give this movie a “Hated It” which kind of makes me sad. But oh well. Since the house was built on a new development plot, I’m kinda nervous for the house we are building now. Hopefully no poltergeists come to play. (1/5).
