Starring: Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Hailee Steinfeld Director: Elizabeth Banks Runtime: 1 hour, 55 minutes Comedy | Musical | 2015 As much as I love Pitch Perfect, there was no reason at all that a second one needed to be made (much less a third, but we will get to that on Friday). This time around, all the girls are seniors and thanks to Fat Amy’s mishaps, they have been banned from competing at nationals. A new character is thrown into the mix, Hailee Steinfeld, who is a legacy Bella. I will say, that I thought the music was better this time around in comparison to the first one. But the film lacked the charm that the original has. Yes, they still need to “find themselves” as an acapella group… or I guess I should say re-find themselves… but overall it’s not just a friendly competition between two Barton University acapella groups anymore. It’s the whole world. Their enemy this time is the German group Das Sound Machine. Who are the stereotypical Germans that think they are better than all Americans. The film really centered in on this along with some other German stereotypes to try and bring as much humor to the screen as possible. Oh and there’s Clay Matthews and the Green Bay Packers. I loved that. Even though I loved the music more in this second film, I can’t say it was that great of a sequel. Perhaps it would have been better if so much time didn’t go by. I think back to Glee and I loved that show, until the main characters were all graduating. It seems to be similar to Pitch Perfect. I don’t know how the third movie is going to be, but I know they are all graduated, working adults so I’d have to guess it would have an even worse story than this one. Enjoyable, but not so great. I’m going to give Pitch Perfect 2 an “okay” rating. I’d rather listen to the soundtrack again than watch the movie. (2.5/5).

I definitely have a similar reaction as yours. Pitch perfect 2 is the weakest film of the trilogy. I really enjoyed the first and third film. I thought that it was well balanced and incorporates the magic of the first film. The second film, however, was too grand and fast paced. If you were to ask, I'd give a similar score to this movie. I would also rank the first film first, then the third, while the second would probably be the last.
