Here we are, day three of Pirates of the Caribbean marathon and the third film in the series. The film starts off with Elizabeth rowing a boat down the swamp of a pirates hangout, where Will is being held prisoner by some Asian pirates. There’s a big fight scene, and eventually the two crews team up and head out to save Jack from Davy Jones’ locker. Through what I’m assuming to be Antarctica, they end up finding Jack and figure out how to get out of the locker. After escaping, alliances are changed and altered multiple times throughout the film. The ultimate goal is to take down Davy Jones so Will can save his father, but also they pirate leaders must come together to stop the British armada from vanquishing all pirates from the area. The title of captain changes hands multiple times to multiple characters throughout the movie, it was a bit to keep track of if I’m being honest. A little background is told as to how Davy Jones was giving the title and the Dutchman. His true love, Calypso turned on him. Long ago, the head pirates bonded her in human form. Eventually, the lead pirates vote on who will be their King and they all decide to let Calypso out of her human body. Being a woman scorned, she turns into a million crabs (gross) and goes into the sea. A storm comes and she creates a massive whirlpool (I can’t think of the actual term for this). A massive fight breaks out between the Flying Dutchman and the Black Pearl inside of whirlpool, all while the armada sits back and watches. SPOILERS
In the end of the fight, Davy Jones is killed and Will Turner is now the true captain of the Flying Dutchman. The downside? He can only see Elizabeth once every ten years (oh yeah, they get married in this film – it was actually a pretty entertaining scene because it was all during a sword fight). After the fight between the two pirate ships is over and the Dutchman goes into the sea, the British armada decides to move in on the Black Pearl. But wait! Will Turner and his new ship come up out of the ship and the two are able to take down the head Armada ship winning the fight epically END SPOILERS The thing I like about the Dutchman in the end? I’m sure you could guess, the crew members are no longer disgusting. I’m unsure of why this is the case. Is it because the curse from Calypso is over (if there was even such a thing that existed) or is it because of the new captain? The ending was great in this film. The comedic reliefs were perfectly placed, the little monkey Jack stole the humor in this film for sure. When this movie came out, I went to see it in theaters (and that is probably the only other time I’ve watched it) and I remember this being the first movie I’ve ever waited until after the credits due to there being a small scene afterwards. I liked that scene, but I don’t see how this can transition into another movie. I can’t wait to watch the next one (I haven’t seen it yet!) I’ll give this film a “Loved It” rating, it’s my favorite in the series so far and I look forward to the next two.
