Pete's Dragon was one of my favorite Disney's movies as a kid. However, I don't really remember much about the original. I tried to order it from disneymovieclub.com but they had it on back-order and I got tired of waiting. So for this review, I won't be able to do a comparison like I wanted. Sorry folks.

This movie started off super sad, with Pete finding himself in the woods and a dragon (Elliot) taking him under his wing and taking care of him. Eight-ish years later, Pete is found and taken back to the city in hopes to find his parents. While in the hospital, he was introduced to so many new things (this reminded me completely of the hospital scene from Room). This is when things start to go downhill because it is made obvious that Pete and Elliot are both lonely from missing each other. Pete tries to escape back to the forest, and Elliot goes against his better judgement and goes into the city to find his best friend.

Everyone in the city has heard the stories of the infamous dragon living in the forest, but that is all they are to people, stories. When Pete starts talking about how he survived in the forest because of
his good friend Elliot, Grace starts to believe the stories and yearns to learn more about him. Concurrently, her brother-in-law has his eyes set on capturing the beast for a side show and a pay-out.

This film is full of ups and downs, but honestly it is still pretty uneventful. The portrayal of Elliot I thought was great. I know it's pretty cliche to make a dragon act like a dog, but I still found all these little scenes that more hilarious. It definitely left me wanting to rush home and hug my animal. I'm going to give this movie an "OKAY" rating. It was a good movie, but it wasn't totally great. Definitely a good family movie, as it seemed that all the children in the theater were enjoying themselves and actually keeping quiet and in their seats. Kudos.
