Knowing that I'm going to have to "read" a movie always ensures that I put it off as long as possible. Even with this one having so many good compliments and reviews - even from my friends - this is true. The top reason I waited though was because it came out on DVD and Blu Ray just last week (heck ya for saving a few bucks instead of heading to the theater!).
Parasite is a film from Korea and follows a poor family that has wormed their way into the lives of a rich family. As the film progresses, each member of the poor family figures out a way to get another member into the fold until eventually they are leaching off the wealth that's to be had. Now, they are actually working and earning their money, that's true. The way they are going about it though starts to stir up problems that are sure to arise in the end of the plot line. Quite honestly, I thought the film was entertaining. However, when the old maid made her appearance and the whole thing in the basement happened I thought the story just took a very strange turn. Still, it was entertaining and really encompassed the differences of the lives of the rich and the poor. Parasite is nominated for the following Academy Awards: 1. Best Picture 2. Best Director 3. Best Foreign Language Film 4. Best Original Screenplay 5. Best Production Design 6. Best Film Editing Parasite if a shoo-in for best foreign language film if you ask me, and I say that without seeing all the other ones. It may even take home the trophy for best original screenplay; however, I don't think it will be able to trump out 1917 for Best Picture. I wouldn't be upset if it did because it was a good film, but I just don't think it can. I thought the film itself was good to watch and the acting was good. I'd recommend everyone to watch it if you don't mind reading subtitles the whole time. I give Parasite a 4/5 stars. ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩
