After seeing the first movie, I was pretty stoked to see the sequel. The second movie, Now You See Me 2, has some similarities to the first movie but the story line is way different. In this case, Arthur Tressler (the man that the Four Horsemen screwed over in the first movie), hatches a plan to get his revenge. The movie starts off with the Four Horsemen (who includes a newcomer, Lula) coming out of hiding at a launch party. They are quickly made by the FBI, Dylan’s hidden agenda is found out, and the four magicians wake up in China. How do they get there you ask? Magic. Nah, it was Walter (Daniel Radcliffe). He pretty much kidnaps them and forces them to steal something. And that is pretty much the movie: they steal something for Walter while simultaneously trying to get out of the situation. We hear more of Dylan’s father’s death and see the trick safe in which he died. There’s a lot less magic in this movie and a lot more trickery. It’s not really until the ending scenes that there’s magic. There are some new players in the game, like McKinney’s twin brother (who is playing against the main characters) and the two magic shop owners (who are playing with them). In the end, they figure out a way to expose Arthur and Walter (sorry to spoil it – but you know how these movies end regardless).
One thing I didn’t like about this movie was the scene while they are stealing the card. I felt like it was way too long and unnecessary. It was pretty obvious that they could have gotten away with it without exchanging the card so many times, what was the point in dragging it out? I also wasn’t too happy about Isla Fischer not being a horseman anymore, though I did like the new character of Lula. She was pretty funny. Though this movie wasn’t as good as the original, I’m still going to give it a “liked it” because it was entertaining.
