Starring: Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward, Bruce Willis
Director: Wes Anderson
Runtime: 1 hour, 34 minutes
Adventure | Comedy | Drama | 2012

This movie has been on my “to watch list” for awhile, I’ve just not watched it due to all the other movies we have been watching for the website. So I was glad when David suggested that we watch and review this one. Going into the movie, I honestly had no clue what to expect. I knew that Billy Murray was in it, but I didn’t know that it was mostly going to be about the children.

Sam (Gilman) escapes from his scout camp to meet up with Suzy (Hayward) who wants to run away from home. Together they head to the woods and follow the trail of the Native Americans who once lived there. The community begins a search party to find the two love birds. The rest of the scout camp are out to find Sam and aren’t too happy about the situation. Suzy’s parents along with the head police officer (Bruce Willis) work closely with the gang to track them down.

Once found, her parents are furious and Sam must be taken into Social Service’s custody. So what happens? They run away again.

The movie itself is shot well, typical Wes Anderson film I would say (I’ve only seen The Grand Budapest Hotel by him, but it was strikingly similar). The young love story was cute, though a tad weird since they were so little (11 and 12 I think).

I’m going to give this movie a “loved it” rating. It was full of adventure and self discovery for the main characters. Gilman and Hayward I found to be perfectly paired and the adults were great in their roles as well. I’d recommend this movie for sure (5/5).
