Miss You Already - Hated It

This movie is so extremely sad. If you want to cry, this one is for you. It's just sad moment, after sad moment, after sad moment. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it's nice watching a sad movie because sometimes you just have to cry. Unfortunately, the day that I watched this one was not one of those days. I had a fabulous day and did not want to be crying. I know, I probably should have timed that out better, but oh well, it's done and over with.

Now onto the movie. Starring Drew Barrymore (as Jess) and Toni Collette (as Milly) Miss You Already tells us the story of two best friends and their lives together. Milly is the party girl type that always seems to get in trouble and have fun doing it, while Jess is a little more conservative but still always at Milly's side. When Milly falls ill, Jess is pulled back and forth between her best friend and her husband. Trying to make all parties happy, it get's extremely difficult on her. Well, long story short....
                           SPOILER ALERT?
Milly doesn't ever fully recover from her illness. Jess is there with her every step of the way, even after all the problems that Milly causes and drama that gets stirred up. With all the sad occasions, I wouldn't have been surprised if something happened to Jess' husband while he was working. In the end, this movie is literally just a story about

how friendship can stand the test of time and sorrow, no matter what life throws at you. Though the ending was predicted, it was both a happy and sad one that will most definitely find yourself sobbing for. I'm sorry to say that I didn't like the characters all that much and I'm going to give this movie a "Hated It." I just wasn't really feeling this one at all.

It might be a little different for me, because it's hard for a movie to make me sad, but I don't understand the reasoning for giving a movie your lowest grade because it made you cry.
Isn't it a movie's job to make you feel something? Even if it's something that's not necessarily positive?
Or is one of the criteria of your grading system that it needs to make you feel good?

Thanks for reading Steve. I wouldn't say I gave it a low rating just because it made me cry... though I know I touched on that in the beginning of my review. Yes, it's a movies job to make you feel something for sure, but I just didn't like anything about the movie at all. Most of the time I love sad movies, but this one just wasn't good in my opinion. I didn't like the characters, the people chosen for those characters, or the overall story.

No problem. I read all of yours and David's current pieces provided they're not movies that I haven't seen and NEED to see. This movie didn't fall under the latter. lol

And I gotcha. Fair enough.
