I’ll be the first to admit that ice hockey is my sport (#GoBlues), so I thought that this movie would be right up my alley. Miracle tells the true story of the USA Olympic Ice Hockey team on their journey to the gold medal. The first comment I want to make, is this must have happened before the NHL was allowed to be a part of it? Since the first third of the movie was the coach and Olympic committee picking the teams from a bunch of college hockey stars. I think that is pretty cool, though I do love to watch me some NHL all-stars play… is it October yet? After the team has been chosen they practice and practice and practice so more, play other countries horribly, and then get better as the movie progresses. The main goal of this film is to shine light on the USA vs USSR rivalry. During the games before the
them out and they became a family. Some more practicing happens and then it’s finally time for the Olympics. They do well against most of the other countries, but the game that this movie is about (as I mentioned before) is the game against the Soviets. Well, I don’t think I can spoil anything as this happened a long time ago and most everybody already knows what happens. But the USA team upsets the USSR in an underdog win, which everyone calls a “Miracle” especially losing like 10-2 just a few months prior to this game.
Overall, I didn’t really like the movie (I know, I’m just as upset about it as you are I’m sure) and am going to give it an “okay” rating. I may be going to watch The Mighty Ducks just to watch some more hockey before October hits.
