Little Shop of Horrors - liked it

I had no idea what this movie was about when one of our readers suggested it. Yes, I had heard of it before, but I just thought it was a horror movie. It wasn't until David told me that it was a musical that I started to get a bit excited to watch it. Well, yes it is a musical, but it's also (at least I think so) is a comedy. Little Shop of Horrors follows a little mom-and-pop florist shop who is down on their luck, not having any costumers throughout the day. Then out of thin air, a strange and unique plant appears to one of the shops employees, Seymour (well, I guess it's really from space because that is more plausible than from "thin air").  Well, because it's such a unique plant the florist shop starts to flourish and is constantly bombarded with customers and media. And that is pretty much where the story brings us. Unfortunately, the strange plant feeds off people (hence the horror part of the title) and eventually it gets completely out of hand and Seymour has to save the world.

The musical pieces in the movie were entertaining, and some of them I feel like I have heard before. The three main singers reminded me of the trio in Hercules, they were fantastic characters I feel. And the one thing I had a hard time getting over was Steve Martin's hair... it was NOT white (I don't know why I was
so surprised, I mean this movie is 30 years old, but I had to IMDB his character because I couldn't quite figure out who it was!). Another thing I couldn't get over was the name that he used for the plant "AUDREY II." This would have been fine if it had a woman's voice, but it didn't. It was voiced by someone named Levi Stubbs, who doesn't have an extensive IMDB page so I can't tell you more information.

Regardless of those couple things, this movie entertained me. I'm giving it a "Liked It."
