This is yet another movie that has a short run time, but feels like it’s never ending. The film itself follows two sisters, played by Jenny Slate and Abby Quinn, who find out their dad is having an affair. And basically that’s it. It’s just them dealing with what they know and what their going through in this time. The film is set in the 1990s, and I did like seeing the wardrobes and trends from my childhood, but that’s about all I liked about this movie.
Jenny Slate acts like what you’d see he act in Parks and Recreation. A little immature yet still more mature than her little sister (in the movie), who actually has the same personality as Jenny Slate. I thought the two women did great in their roles and their relationship on screen really worked. Jay Duplass (I knew he looked familiar!) plays Dana’s fiance, and their crumbling relationship seemed evident as the story line progressed.
The only scene I remotely liked was the one with Dana and Ali getting drunk at their parents vacation home. I don’t like whiskey or mountain dew, but for some reason I still want to try it. Overall, I didn’t love this movie and I thought it was really boring and dragged out regardless of it’s run time. I’m going to give it a Hated It and not watch it ever again. (1/5).
