I’m pretty sure there is absolutely no point to this movie. If it didn’t exist, I’d be okay with that. Well, it’s technically supposed to be a romantic comedy, and it clearly takes that description, but I just didn’t enjoy it at all. Tom Cruise stars as Jerry Maguire, a sports agent who decides he has morals and pretty much loses all but one of his clients. Instead of having a bunch of clients and making a ton of money, he wants to have few clients and provide love and support and friendship rather than just advice.
His one client? Cuba Gooding Jr. He’s probably the only character I don’t hate, even though he is a little man child the entire time. Jerry Maguire falls in love with Renee Zellweger, a young woman who also worked at the same agency as Maguire, but loved the boldness of Jerry and decided to also quit and work with him as a partner.
The thing I didn’t like about this “romantic comedy” is the fact that Jerry doesn’t actually fall in love with Dorothy. At least not in the sense that typical romantic comedies fall. He falls in love with her son, and in turn wants to be a part of this family for life.
Another thing I didn’t like was how long it was. It literally thought it was never going to end. A roller coaster story that just keeps going and going. It was 2 hours and 19 minutes. I don’t think comedies should be that long. It’s more of a historical drama or an action flick that can get away with that type of thing.
By the time it was over, I was so glad. I’m giving this film a “hated It” because I felt like it was a waste of time. Sorry. Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger just didn’t click for me as a couple. The little boy was adorable though.
