Originally we were going to watch The Meg in place of this film, but sadly it wasn’t on DVD soon enough for Halloween/Horror Movie month, so I suggested Jaws because DUN DUN DUN I have never seen it. Well, let me just tell you right off the bat, I was not impressed. I found it totally boring and not what I expected at all. That being said, the storyline was probably the thing I didn’t like most about the film.
I guess I just expected it to be like all the other shark films I’ve seen recently and in the past. Yes, there’s a shark trying to eat people off the beach causing fright on land, but the fact that the three main character go on a shark hunt was not something I expected. Can someone tell me, is Jaws the original shark movie?
I did like the music of the movie - the score handled by none other than John Williams. How can you not like his stuff? It’s so epic and perfectly fit to the film as it progresses through the story line. I also liked the special effects. For such an old film releasing well before all this new technology and advances in film making, I thought the scenes with the sharks looked pretty great. Except for the one scene where the men are hanging up the dead shark… I don’t think sharks bend like that, but I’m not an expert.
Overall, I didn’t like this film. I thought it was too long and completely slow movie for a film that’s supposed to be a thriller. It wasn’t awful when all the other aspects are considered. I’ll give it an “Okay” but I wouldn’t choose to watch this movie again. (2/5).
