Stars: Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman
Director: Roland Emmerich Runtime: 2 hours Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi | 2016 Since we watched Independence Day and I loved it so much, I decided to watch the newest version of the movie to see what that one could be about. It’s basically just as the title sounds like. The aliens come back to Earth and the humans must again save their planet… in the same way really. Being made just a couple years ago though, the special effects are more advanced this time even though they kept a lot of the same concepts. Jessie Usher plays Dylan Hiller, the son of Will Smith (from the first movie) who took after his father even though he’s no longer a live… this was very sad knowing Will Smith wasn’t going to be in this film by the way. Liam Hemsworth plays Jake, pretty much the main character in the movie I would say alongside Usher, Maika Monroe (the daughter of the president from the first movie), and Bill Pullman. Speaking of Bill Pullman, I just binged The Sinner on Netflix and it was amazing. Highly recommend if you like crime dramas… it’s just like Secrets and Lies if you’ve watched that on ABC. Some other actors/actresses that come back for this movie ar Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, William Fichtner, Patrick St Esprit, and Vivica A Fox. I enjoyed this movie. I thought the actors played their roles well and if chemistry was needed it was there. For most of the movie I thought Maika was actually Elizabeth Olsen, whoops on that, but I know the truth now. Does anyone else think they look alike? I also liked the use of the fighter jets (even though I don’t believe it’s possible for them to fly into space, but I’m sure they are “modified” in this movie right?). And I really enjoyed the end sequence with A) them fighting the mother alien and B) Judd Hirsch on the school bus with Jeff Goldblum. I’m going to give this movie a “liked it” rating. It was worth the watch. I would say the first one is better, even though it’s literally the same plot in both. I guess I just like Will Smith! (4/5).
