Runtime: 1 hour, 32 minutes
Action | Fantasy | Horror | 2014

This film is interesting enough. Frankenstein’s monster has lived for over 200 years and is now living in the present world. He finds himself in a battle between gargoyles and demons… can’t get any more stranger than this.

The demons are trying to find a way to reanimate dead bodies, so the monster and the good doctor’s research notes are on their radar and a must have. The gargoyles, which are technically archangels have been keeping the monster and it’s book secret in hopes to rid the world of all demons. Well, the entire movie is gargoyle vs demons, demons vs frankenstein, gargoyles vs frankenstein, and then gargoyles and frankenstein vs demons. The sides flipped and flopped more than my flip-flops.

The scientists who are working on the reanimation have gotten very close, but not close enough for the Prince of the Demons (Bill Nighy) and he quickens them up by retrieving the book. Adam (a.k.a Frankenstein and played by Aaron Eckhart) wants to stop him, but also wants answers to his creation.
For the most part, the effects and the fight scenes were entertaining. I felt Eckhart did a fine job in his role, and all the others were just there. Miranda Otto played Leonore the head of the Gargoyles, Jai Courtney played Gideon the lead archangel, and Yvonne Strahovski played Terra the lead scientist.

I was hoping there would be more of a romance story between Adam and Terra, but this didn’t really happen. I liked this movie more than most, but it wasn’t the best thing I’ve watched for the Monster Movie Marathon at DFP. I’m going to give it an “okay” rating (3/5).
