Set in the countryside of England just outside of London an American girl, Daisy (Saoirse Ronan), is sent by her father to stay with her cousins for the summer. She’s reluctant about the trip and pissed that her father has sent off to another country. Finally coming around to the idea of spending time with her relatives and making the best of this new adventure she’s a part of, she finds love with Isaac, a friend of her relatives.
Soon after her arrival, war erupts around them leaving them to flee their home at first, just to be carted off by British soldiers to a more safe environment. The boys and the girls are separated and Daisy is hurting from the distance between her and Isaac. Living like slaves, Daisy and Piper have had enough and make a plan to return back to their countryside home to wait for the boys to return.

The journey home was no picnic in the park. Piper complains, they run out of drinkable water, they meet some not-so-good men along the way, and they come across a lot of dead bodies. Just when they are about to give up, they find help in the most amazing way that leads them to their destination. The two girls try to make the best of their lives as they wait for the boys to come home. Though it’s not easy or glamorous, they stayed alive through all the fighting and are still fighting for the ones they love.

This movie is apparently based on a book, which I would totally be interested in reading. I love me a good teen fiction. I do have a lot of questions though, which I’m hoping may be answered in the novel. What happened with the mother? How did Isaac end up where he ended up, I’d like to know more about his story as well? I’m going to give this movie a Loved It.
