Here were are. The last day of sequels weeks. It was an interesting night at the theater as I watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. First there were no trailers. Strange, but nice. And the theater was packed, I couldn’t even get my free popcorn the lines were almost out the door (not even exaggerating here). Nonetheless, the movie starts off and it’s action from the first moment. I enjoyed the first scene immensely, mostly because of Baby Groot. Oh. My. Goodness. Baby Groot is the most adorable thing, every scene that had him in it made me want a Baby Groot, and most of the time I was laughing at his actions. SO ADORABLE. Okay, sorry, I just had to let you know about Baby Groot, who has even less words that normal Groot in the first movie, kudos to Vin Diesel for making money on this film without doing a whole lot of voiceovers.

The gist of the story for volume 2 of the Guardians series (I’m assuming there will be more since the movie told me so) is that Peter meets his father and then the Guardians must save the universe yet again. Gamora (Saldana) reunites with her sister, Rocket (Cooper) realizes that he has friends, and Drax (Bautista) is the same ole Drax not knowing sarcasm and laughing at things that aren’t supposed to be funny.
Just like the first film, this was filled with colorful scenes of the galaxies and people living in it. We see more of Earth, with a short backstory of Peter’s mother and father meeting and falling in love. I liked this movie more than the first by far (kind of like The Avengers, didn’t like the first movie all that much in that series either). It didn’t feel like it was trying to hard to be a comedy, though I actually found myself laughing at several parts of the film.  Yondu (Michael Rooker) has a mutiny on his hands and ends up fighting alongside the Guardians. I will say, the scene with him and Peter flying up from the explosion seemed forced, cliche, and just plain awkward.

I liked the character of Mantis (Pom Klementieff). Her empathic antennae made for many funny scenes between her, Peter, and Drax. I also thought Kurt Russell played Ego well, the long lost father Peter who turns out to be a God - oh sorry, it’s actually god with a little “g”. Overall, I enjoyed watching this film. Not so much when the projector decided to freeze up in the middle of the movie (on Taser Face nonetheless, another fun joke that carried a few scenes), but hey I got a free movie pass out of it, a bathroom break, and was able to get my free popcorn after all. I’ll give this film a “Liked It” rating.
