Green Room - Ok

I'm going to turn the tables on you here for this review of the movie Green Room. The difference from my other reviews is the fact that I loved the story itself, but everything else about the movie (acting, dialogue, filmography, etc) made it fall to a "Just ok" rating. There are just so many things that were awful about this movie.
  1. The music. Holy hell, how much more awful can you get? I couldn't even tell you one word that was sung since he was screaming at us the whole time. Even the instrument playing was horrible and just didn't flow together at all. Do people really listen to that crap? Hope they don't get concussions from all the head banging.
  2. Amber (played by Imogen Poots) had extremely ugly hair. I don't even know if that is an actual hairstyle? It's a mix between a bowl cut and a mullet... I think. I really have no idea. If you have your hair like this, please tell me what it's called I would truly like to know, and I'm sorry if I have offended you.
  3. The effects. I have never seen blood and guts that looked this fake in a movie before. People get their heads blown, their arms chopped, mauled by animals... and each time it just looks so completely fake. I mean I know that it IS fake, but I've seen way better effects than this is many other movies. Oh! And another thing - I'm not so sure that a razor blade can cut open someone's stomach like that... or am I wrong?
  4. The fact that they use dogs as weapons. This hurts my heart. Are they trying to add to the problems that people have with pit bulls? End BSL folks, it's the people that are the problem. And can I just add, that end scene with the dog also broke my heart. I get it, the dog's owner was a bad guy, but this scene did not need to be put in there. Poor pup.
  5. The dialogue. There were a bunch of lines that just made me laugh out loud because of how dumb they were. A lot of them I can't even remember. The one that sticks out in my memory though is towards the end of the movie, when the remaining "green roommates" (haha I like that term and you are welcome) are taking their last stand, she shoots him in the head and says "got him." There were plenty of other lines that I found dumb as well, but I'm sure you get the picture.
  6. They used duct tape on their open wounds. When Pat's (Anton Yelchin) arm almost gets chopped off, his brilliant friend grabs the duct tape and uses that as a bandage. Then, when Amber gets shot in the leg, she uses that duct tape as a bandage too. Haven't they heard the Taylor Swift lyrics "band-aids don't fix bullet holes"? I'm sure it's the same for duct tape. Imagine that adhesive on your open wounds, then imagine taking the duct tape off after you've been saved! Ow!
Scream it now... cuz no one will hear you later
Her hair!
Now that I have ranted about all the things I didn't like about Green Room, let me get to the actual storyline of the film. It follows a group of young friends who play in a band together. After a gig, they walk in on a murder, and then get locked in the green room while the club owners try to figure out how to cover it up. Ultimately, they have to get rid of the evidence and anyone who knows what happened a.k.a. the band. So, one by one they are picked off and killed. It's a classic thriller film with some characters getting taken out early, some in the middle, and then the main characters leftover to defend their lives and hopefully turn the tables on the bad guys. I definitely loved the storyline and how it progressed throughout the film I thought was good. I just can't help but think that this movie would be sooooo much better if it weren't for all the problems I listed above.

One last thing I want to add, rest in peace Anton Yelchin. I'm sad to say that these are the only movies I've seen him in, but he was good in

1. Yeah, I knew the music would be a bit polarizing. I personally don't enjoy that type of music either, but I do think it was relevant to the movie in regards to tone and setting.

2. Lol, well it certainly wasn't very attractive, but are you saying that her hairstyle influenced your grade for this movie?

3. and 5. Interesting... I don't agree with you at all... but now I want to see the movie again and see if the dialogue and the effects bother me if I pay more attention to them.

6. I agree, but I think if my limb was chopped up, and all I had was duct tape, I'm pretty sure I'd do the same thing.

Definitely an interesting review and read!

No, I wouldn't say that her hair had an impact on my rating. Just something that bothered me the entire time lol.
