Starring: Andy Nyman, Martin Freeman, Paul Whitehouse
Director: Jeremy Dyson Runtime: 1 hour, 38 minutes Drama | Horror | 2017 *This post will contain spoilers* Ghost Stories is another movie that we were supposed to watch back in October but we just didn’t have the time to get it in. The synopsis makes the film sound interesting: Skeptical professor embarks on a trip to the terrifying after being given a file with details of three unexplained cases of apparitions. And the movie was interesting, at first. The main character set out to debunk (which is his job) what these people claimed they saw. Each one was chilling to watch on screen. Then the twist came. And typically, I’m ALL ABOUT psychological twists, but this one just pissed me off. Mostly because it wasn’t done all that well. I feel like they could have done without the guy taking him down “memory lane” and tearing down a “set” and all that. I liked the idea of him being in a coma doing all this work, while the people he’s talking to are actually working in the hospital, but I just didn’t like the way the twist was handled. And I didn’t understand what the point of the teenagers and the cave had to do with anything. Again, this movie it obviously low budget indie horror film, with acting that’s not the greatest (probably something I would be like if I were an actor). Although, Martin Freeman (Cargo, The Hobbit) is in it and plays the creepy guy somewhat well. I’m going to give this one a “hated it.” I felt like it was a waste of time and I wish I hadn’t watched it. I do not recommend it at all and wish they just stuck with the professor trying to debunk these stories and failing. Would have like it a lot better. (1/5).
