Stars: Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams
Director: Jordan Peele
Runtime: 1 hour, 44 minutes
Horror | Suspense | 2017

I have heard good things about this movie for the most part, including that it’s a different type of “scary” movie. With that being in the back of my mind, I did not know what to expect. As the film started, it seemed like it was going to be a movie that played on the races of the characters. Black man falls in love with a white woman who takes him home to meet the family. When they arrive at the Armitage household though, it doesn’t seem to be the case. But then again, it did. That’s one thing that was cool about this film. For me personally, I am always trying to figure out what the plot line is and how it’s going to play out. Get Out gave me way too many options to choose from, so just when I decided on what I thought was going to happen, I changed my mind just like that.

Daniel Kaluuya plays the main character, Chris, who is spending the weekend with his girlfriend Rose and her family. Almost immediately, he senses that something isn’t quite right with the family and wants them to leave. Rose’s mother is a psychiatrist and her father is a neurosurgeon. These two aspects didn’t help me in figuring out what the plot was until it was happening, kudos to the screenwriters on this one.
SPOILERS
When the plot is finally revealed, I was please to find out that it was more of a science fiction story. The Armitages have perfected a way to put someone else’s brain in another body. So that person can live on in a different “vessel.” The whole family is in on it. Chris is the next victim. The idea is very interesting all together. The auction that they have was interesting as well, silent and with bingo cards.
END SPOILERS

Get Out was a good movie full of suspense and parts that make you on edge. I enjoyed watching it and was happy with how it all ended. I thought Kaluuya did a great job in the role of Chris. I also enjoyed the acting from pretty much the entire Armitage family. They were creepy the entire time which really added to the film I think. Rose was probably the best performance, her character was just great I think. I remember in the beginning of the movie saying, “I like her.”

I also enjoyed Chris’ friend, Rod (LilRel Howery) who added comedic parts to the film as well as pulling the story along with him after Chris goes missing. Overall, I enjoyed watching this film and would suggest it for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. I’ll give it a “Loved It.” (5/5)
