Free Birds - Hated It

Okay, so the context of this movie made me think that it was going to be good. It's about a turkey, named Reggie (voiced by Owen Wilson) who is smarter than most of the turkeys on his farm. He knows that every Thanksgiving, a turkey is chosen to be the main dish for the humans. However, all the other turkeys think that he is just crazy and throw him out to be "sacrificed." Just his luck though, the President's daughter picks him up and convinces her father to pardon Reggie for Thanksgiving. Reggie and the President's daughter (who is a really annoying character I must say) go back to Camp David and he is living the high life! Eating pizza and watching TV all the time.

But then Jake (voiced by Woody Harrelson) kidnaps Reggie and convinces him to go on a journey in a time machine back to the first Thanksgiving to save all turkeys from being on the main menu. This, was a good start to a movie and I think a pretty good plot line for a "Thanksgiving" themed movie. However, once they go back in time this movie just goes downhill.

Jake and Reggie have to convince the turkey tribe (from 1621) that they need to attack the settlers in order to keep turkeys off the menu. How are turkeys going to attack settlers? I don't understand this, there has to be a better way right? Anyways, that's what this movie is, the turkey tribe
go on to attack the settlers, to try and save future turkeys. I'm not going to give any spoilers, even though I really don't recommend this movie.

The story-line is pretty confusing - is this an adult animated film or is it geared more towards children? Could go either way. I didn't find it funny as some other animated films I've watched (I also watched Wreck It Ralph this weekend and it was hilarious!) and it was pretty boring for the most part (I may have fallen asleep and had to re-watch the end - whoops!). But of course they bring the "turducken" into the mix in the end.

I'm going to give this movie a "Hated It" and not going to recommend it for watching this Thanksgiving.
