Starring: Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler
Director: Damien Chazelle Runtime: 2 hours, 21 minutes Biography | Drama | History | 2018 A movie about Neil Armstrong and the lunar landing, what could be a better biopic than that? First Man tells us the story of Armstrong and his life before and shortly after the moon landing and Apollo missions. It also touches on the missions of NASA with all the sacrifices that both the astronauts and their families had to do for the love of science and the race against the Soviets. First, I’d like to talk about the sound effects in this movie. It’s not very often that I notice sound effects, but man this movie was amazing with that. I really felt like I was in the spaceships with the characters and the feelings that were brought forth by just those sounds was amazing to witness. Next, I’d like to talk about the acting in this movie. It was superb. Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy had great chemistry on screen, allowing the tension and anxiety to build up as the movie progresses, allowing the tension to be felt throughout the audience. It was a true relationship on screen, not just one that is happy go-lucky like some of the fiction romances. And that scene with Armstrong and his children before leaving for the mission, that hit the feels, and it was excellent. The movie overall was excellent. I would watch it again, recommend it, and perhaps even add it to my movie library when I can afford to expand that. I’m going to give this one a “Loved It.” When I left the theater I felt like I had watched something epic. And even though I knew what the outcome of these true events was, the film was still able to keep me on the edge of my seat, praying that the characters would make it safely to the moon!! (5/5).
