When I first turned on this movie I remember thinking that I wasn’t a huge fan of “horror sci-fi movies with children in them” because well, to be honest, the children annoy me. They complain and are scared (okay, I get it you don’t want to die), but in this movie all of those things just lead it to each scene being drawn out for no reason at all. With that statement over though, that’s the only thing bad I have to say about this movie, and it’s not even really that bad right?
The film stars Michael Pena (CHIPS and The Martian) and Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield and Mean Girls) who live in a city with their two children played by Amelia Crouch and Erica Tremblay. Peter (Pena) starts to have nightmarish visions of what’s to come in the future, it’s not good. Then one day his visions come true, spaceships come down from the sky and start to kill everything and everyone that moves.
The starting action sequence of the invasion is long and deadly. It’s actually pretty exciting and I liked the special effects that are brought to the screen during this. It’s not until closer to the end and the audience is revealed the true nature of the invasion that I really started to like this film. The science fiction concept in this film is great and I really enjoyed watching the entire thing play out. I am a little skeptic that it will happen one day, but you never know. Reminds me of the concept of Origin by Dan Brown, that book was really good and had the same predictions in the end.
I will give this movie a “Liked It” rating. With a somewhat slow start, the film really took off and became a true action sci-fi that falls into the films I enjoy. I would recommend it if you’re looking for something on Netflix to watch, bundled up with your dogs and your fiance (or husband/wife)... If you like action films! (4/5).
