I took one look at the cover on this DVD and thought, man I’m going to hate this movie. But in fact, I did not. I thought it was actually funny (not stupid funny like I assumed it would be), and it had a lot of science in it that it was just so completely fascinating to watch the story unfold. This movie came out back in 2001, and since I was only 11 I can honestly say I had never heard of this film though there are some big names in it. David Duchovny (x-files) and Julianne Moore (Kingsman, Suburbicon) lead the way as they try to save the world from the evolution of the creatures that crash landed on Earth.

Being a scientist myself, I really enjoyed watching the evolution of the species happening just like it’s said for Earth. The fact that it all happened within a week - single cell, multi-cell, dinosaurs, man - the team of scientists try to A) keep it quiet at first and B) get rid of the ultimate end species before it kills everyone in the area.

I thought the looks of the creatures were very inventive, and I actually had many strange dreams for like a week after watching this movie. Particularly about the alligator that ate the guy at the golf course… not sure why my subconscious locked onto the alligator, don’t worry though I saved the dogs from the hungry alligator in my dream since I’m obviously a badass in dream world.

Being a movie from the early 2000s there isn’t much special effects that compare to now, but I thought the film did a good job making it totally believable that a pterodactyl was attacking people in the mall. I’m going to give this movie a “Liked It.” I was pleasantly surprised with the whole thing and I would totally watch it again. I’m a little sad I’m just now hearing about this film. (4/5).
