This is the story of how Dracula came to be, but I wonder how vampires became to be in the first place. There had to be a first right? I always thought that Dracula was the first one… this story definitely debunks that idea.

Luke Evans stars as Prince Vlad, a man that has kept his kingdom in peace for so long, but now that peace is being threatened by Mehmed (Dominic Cooper). To save his kingdom and the kingdom’s children, he becomes a monster and dubs himself Dracula.

This is more of a war movie than it is a vampire movie. Yes, in the end there’s a ton of vampires sucking the bloods of the enemy, but first and foremost I consider this a war movie. And honestly, I really enjoyed it. I loved all the effects used throughout the film:
  • The skin of Vlad when he is in the sun or near silver.
  • The first fight scene when they show you Vlad changing from bats to human form through the reflection of the sword.
  • The overall color scheme.
  • And the scenes where he is discovering his new abilities
Sarah Gadon plays Vlad’s wife. It’s evident that he loves her immensely, and even when he became a monster she loved him back. I enjoyed the final scene in the movie as far as the romance goes. However, I’m still confused as to the purpose of the other vampire. I know they struck a deal all those centuries ago, but for what reason and who is he really? They don’t touch on this at all in the film. Perhaps they were trying to set up a sequel or something, but I don’t see that happening really.

Overall, I enjoyed watching this film. The fights were epic and the effects, I think, were great. With the exception of Luke Evans, I wouldn’t say the acting was particularly wonderful, but they did their job. I’m going to say “liked it” for this film. It was entertaining. (4/5).

Dracula is one of the most remarkable film for me. The features are really amazing and breathtaking. The cinematography is one of a kind. The actors and actresses are professionals and are really great. This surely earns a gross capital due to its undeniably good plot. I salute all the creators, producers and directors for a wonderful experience they offered to us through this film. Congratulations and please continue to create beautiful films.
