Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) is a criminal mastermind. When it’s discovered that someone has stolen the great pyramid of Giza, he decides to go above and beyond to come out on top in the criminal world. His nemesis, Vector (voiced by Jason Segel) has the tool he needs - the shrink ray. So pretty much the entire film is Gru trying to steal the shrink ray and eventually complete the ultimate heist.

To steal the shrink ray, he adopts three little girls and uses their cookie selling business to his own use. The film itself is more than just a the criminal stuff though. As I’m sure you can guess, the three little girls change his life forever.
There were some laffy taffy jokes in here, and some laughs meant for the children. It’s not the best animated movie I’ve seen. I think I was expecting more since this film has such a big hype behind it. I did however, enjoy watching it. The three little girls (voiced by Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Fisher) were my favorite part of the show I think. Some other big names in this film: Russell Brand who voices Gru’s right hand man Dr. Nefario, Julie Andrews is Gru’s mother, Will Arnett is Mr. Perkins (who I think is the neighbor, but I can’t remember now), and Kristen Wiig is Miss Hattie (the head of the orphanage).

The minions were cute. Being completely smitten with Gru, their loyalty was something great to watch on screen.

Overall, I’ll be giving this film a “liked it.” It was fairly entertaining and I’m interested to see what exactly the trilogy is going to turn into. (4/5).
