Adventure | Crime | Drama | Netflix | 2017

Netflix is always putting out original TV shows and movies, and frankly I have been a little scared to watch them. Mainly because some I haven’t liked, regardless of what the world is saying about them *cough cough* Ozark (which you think I would like since I’m from Missouri and all). But I decided that it was a good idea to watch Death Note, mainly because the synopsis sounded interesting. Death Note is based on the Japanese Manga series of the same name in case you were wondering.

Well, I wasn’t a bad movie. I will tell you, it was extremely graphic and extremely gory. So basically, this high school student Light (played by Nat Wolff) is given the Death Note book. He has the power to kill anyone he wants, just by writing it down in the book. The catch is you have to have a face and a name and be specific. So the first person he kills is the school bully, and I’ll just let you be surprised at how he dies.
Along with the book comes the creature that forged it. For the most part he is the devil, but I can’t remember his name now. He’s interesting looking and definitely terrifying to look at. What’s the deal with the apples? I don’t know.

Eventually Light decides to use the book to “do good” which means, kill all the bad people that the system can’t get to. Like terrorist and drug lords and pedophiles. It was all fine and dandy until the FBI started trying to find who was behind the murders. The film quickly turns into a cat and mouse chase.

Full of teen angst and teen romance, Death Note brings an interesting watch. Though I probably wouldn’t watch it again, it was still something I think you should see. I’m going to give it a “Liked It” rating. Keep in mind that it’s very graphic. (3/5)

Death Note is arguably the best anime ever. First of all, the concept is amazing and well written. For everyone who have not watched or read the manga, the concept of Death Note is that there are Shinigamis or Death Gods in the world. They have a notebook which allows them to take the lives of anyone, it fell into the hands of a very intelligent and self-righteous person. The constant battle of wits between light and detective L is amazing.
