Cool Runnings is a true tale of four young men from Jamaica who decide to start their very own bobsled team in hopes to make it to the Olympics. I know what you’re thinking, a bobsled team from Jamaica? What about the snow? Well, that’s what makes this movie and above all, story, so fun and inspiring. It all started when three of the men were competing in the Olympic trials for the 100M dash (track and field if you don’t know the lingo), and an unhappy thing happened: they fell and did not complete the race. With their hopes and dreams of making it to the Olympics crushed, they find a retired bobsledder to be their coach and start training for something that is nearly impossible on the tiny island of Jamaica.

This Disney movie is full of fun, excitement, and humor. Each character in the team has their own personality that makes them mesh (and also differ) well from each other. You have Sanka (Doug E. Doug) who is the spirited one of the group bringing laughs and nationalism to the team. There’s Junior (Rawle Lewis) who is the “rich” one of the team, that has a little self-image problems but is sill able to

defy his father and chase his dream at all costs. Derice (Leon Robinson) is the tough one, who at first doesn’t get along with anyone and is only there in hopes to leave Jamaica and never come back. And lastly, we have Yul. He is the captain of the team, the driver of the bobsled, and
overall most motivated to achieve Olympic gold status. Because this is a movie, he brings turmoil to the team, and then quickly realizes how to be the leader they need to be.

In the end, they make it to the Olympics in Calgary and are laughed at the entire way. They get better and better at their bobsledding technique and make it to the final round. Trying not to spoil anything (though it’s kind of hard to spoil a movie when it’s based on a true story) I won’t tell you how it ends. I liked this movie and would both recommend it for everyone to watch as well as watch it again myself.

Feel the rhythm. Feel the rhyme. Get on up, it's bobsled time!! COOL RUNNINGS!!!!
