Starring: Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut, Teri Garr
Director: Steven Spielberg Runtime: 2 hours, 2 minutes Drama | Science Fiction | 1977 I was excited to watch this movie because I had heard of it being a super huge movie back in the 70s. I didn't exactly know what it was about, but that's okay right? I figured the effects wouldn't be up to par as they are today in 2018, but that's okay too. This movie is so completely boring and for the most part annoying. The main character witnesses UFOs flying down the road and then become obsessed with finding out everything. Now, I understand WHY he has the urges to find out information, but it's just so completely annoying the way he acts and treats his family... and this goes on for over TWO HOURS! I didn't really understand the whole point of the movie other than to make up something so ludicrous for its time that this is what happened to come to the screen. And the ending... not sure on that one. As for the effects, I did like the UFOs on the screen and all the colors needed to both communicate and bring to life the ships and in the end, lifeforms. Quick question though, have humans always thought of Aliens to look like the ones in this movie? Or did this movie create that thought? Obviously, I don't know I wasn't around until the 90s, but it's a valid question I think knowing how social media and movies and what not really steer thoughts and feelings towards things that are unknown. Another thing that wasn't explained (unless I missed it, kinda didn't see what happened ALL the way in the end) is why they took people i.e. the little boy and how long were they taking people? One more thing I may have missed because I wasn't enthralled with watching the film, this took place in the 70s right? Not the 40s... which I think is why I have that question as to how long they were "abducting" people. OOHHH one more question, did this movie create the whole "Being abducted by aliens thing?" Overall, this movie was boring and didn't make a whole lot of sense. I still have questions that I'm sure none of you will or can answers so I'll just leave at this... "Hated It." (1/5).
