Starring: Tim Matheson, Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman
Runtime: 1 hour, 30 minutes Genres: Horror, Sci-Fi 2019 Ah... A remake of a horror classic, what could go wrong? To be honest, not much went wrong in my opinion but I'm sure others (cough cough David) may disagree. See, I didn't really enjoy the first Child's Play movie. It wasn't terrible by any means, but not really enjoyable either. Let's do a little comparison real quick shall we? Original- evil dead guy manifesting in a doll. Remake- glitch in the computer chip Original- focuses on the past life of Chucky. Remake- focuses on obsession Original- epic end scene. Remake- similar epic end scene. Okay, now here's my two cents. I love the science fiction AI taking over and killing people aspect more than I like the ghost/demon inside a doll. That's definitely up my alley when it comes to picking a horror movie. I also liked that Chucky was killing people because he wanted to be the boys best and only friend more than I like that in the original he killed people to keep his secret. Overall, I liked the remake more than the first, but it was still just "okay" in my opinion. I also find it interesting that in the remake, the child is much older, to the point of being too old for a doll. Makes the story line interesting in itself. I thought the way that Chucky killed was unique each time. And it was refreshing to see Aubrey Plaza in this role as a responsible adult (well, sort of responsible). She's in several other films and TV shows that depicts the exact opposite. Like I said before, I give Child'S Play an "okay" 3/5 rating.
