Starring: Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edwards James Olmos Director: Ridley Scott Runtime: 1 hour, 57 minutes Sci-Fi | Thriller | 1982 So my first question about Blade Runner is: why is this film so popular? I mean, it’s not very exciting or good. Harrison Ford plays Rick Deckard, a blade runner who is tasked with killing “replicants” that have returned to Earth to meet their creator. There are so many things I didn’t enjoy about this movie. First, the futuristic ideas of how Earth will look. It reminded me a lot of Ghost in the Shell, and I didn’t like it in that movie either. First of all, the entire streets were just filthy, the people looked like crack addicts and dirty people, and the effects were just not good (okay… I should give this one some slack since this is an 80s movie and all). For a movie starring Harrison Ford (who is awesome by the way) I just didn’t find any excitement in his scenes. There was hardly any action, and when there was I was just too confused to understand what was going on. I feel like the plot falls a lot to the audience (or just to me maybe?). I didn’t understand the point of the naked lady or the other lady who he likes for some reason and the every grotesque looking brother/sister replicant duo.
Overall, I did not enjoy this movie and I would not watch it again. I truly don’t understand why this movie is so popular. Maybe it was a gem of it’s time, but there’s not sense in keeping this on people’s radar by introducing a new version (Blade Runner 2049… which will be watched and reviewed in August for Sci-Fi month, hopefully I have better thoughts of that one). I give it a hated it. (1/5).
