I've been interested in seeing this movie for some time now, just have never had the opportunity to watch it yet. Bird Box is based on a novel of the same name and stars Sandra Bullock (Miss Congeniality and Oceans Eight), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), and John Malkovich (RED and Deepwater Horizon). The story follows Malorie (Bullock) during a time where the Earth has been taken over by some kind of entity that steers humans into committing suicide. The movie itself jumps between present day and 5 years ago when the whole thing started.
At first, I was worried that this was going to be something similar to The Happening, which was a fine idea but not executed well by the filmmakers and actors/actresses. However, I found this film to be really intriguing and stimulating to watch. It wasn't extremely horrific like some of the other movies we've watched so far this October, but it definitely brings the chills and thrills. I enjoyed the entire movie, but I particularly liked the ending. I thought Sandra Bullock was great in her role (as she is in most roles I see her in). Everyone else were just fill-ins to the story, but played their part well. John Malkovich played the selfish, angry old man during the times right after the entities arrived. And Trevante Rhodes plays the love interest, Tom. I would have liked to see more of Sarah Paulson, but I understand that wouldn't have been possible. The one thing I didn't like a whole lot was that she didn't give the two children names, but I quickly understood why and the fact was rectified in the end regardless. Being based on a novel, I can definitely say I'd like to read this one and compare the movie to it. I thought the film was great and I would both recommend and watch it again. Loved It.
