Big Hero 6 is about a teenage boy, Hiro, who is pretty much a genius. He invents microbots that are controlled telepathically, which can be something extremely useful for some people. After he refuses to sell his invention, the building catches on fire taking with it Hiro’s brother. Mourning, his brother’s invention, Baymax, comes out and tries to aid him to recovery. Baymax is a robot that is designed to help people and ultimately cure them of any illness or hurt. After discovering that the explosion at the school was not an accident and that his microbots were stolen, Hiro, Baymax, and all his friends from the school set out to find out who has stolen them and to get them back.
Ultimately this is a superhero movie. Which is pretty evident from the title. Five smart students make their own “superhero” suits in order to save the world, alongside Baymax. Baymax is a loving robot, well as much love as a robot can give seeing as robots don’t technically have feelings. Any of the funny part of this movie were from Baymax. Just the way he speaks and is unaware (again, I know he’s a robot and that’s how it’s supposed to be) of danger or what exactly is going on around him brought humor to the movie.
I may have missed the connection, but I didn’t really see how the microbots and the vortex thing fit together. And why the girl even went through the vortex in the first place. I’m assuming it was for some scientific experiment, but I just was lost for a little.
Being a Disney movie, there were plenty of happy moments and plenty of sad moments in the film. The animation I thought was good and the story was alright, they weren’t reinventing the wheel or anything. I wouldn’t think this would be a film for the younger crowd. There was a lot going on that most children probably wouldn’t understand. Robot fighting, going to college, inventing super suits, etc. I love science fiction though so it was interesting to me. The one thing I didn’t care for was the one friend, the one that ended up in a dragon suit, was he supposed to be a pothead? In a Disney movie?
Overall I thought Big Hero 6 was a good movie, but not the best I’ve seen from Disney. I’m going to give it a “Liked It” rating and I still would recommend it for watching.
