The Invitation - Hated It

Sigh. I couldn't help but feeling like this movie was a complete waste of time. The story itself wasn't bad, but the execution of the story was just not fun to watch at all. The Invitation follows a man and his girlfriend who are invited to a dinner party at his ex-wife's home. As the night progresses, the man (Will, played by Logan Marshall-Green), keeps getting flashbacks of the life he once had - the terrible memories of a lost child. Then the dinner party goes south and weird things start to happen.

I'm going to jump right into spoilers here because I don't know how else to convey my thoughts for this movie.

SPOILERS
So basically, the ex-wife joined a cult that idealizes death. Which, isn't much of a new concept. Many times I'll be watching a movie or TV show and the leader want everyone to commit suicide in order to be in a better place together, and to see loved ones again. Well, for whatever reason they REALLY liked the idea and wanted all their friends to be with them in the afterlife. So the dinner party turns into a killing spree leaving only a few to survive. Once that shit hit the fan though, the movie wasn't bad, I just wish it didn't take so long for everything to start happening. The whole kill or be killed scenes were entertaining enough for a delusional horror film. But the whole dinner party and amping up to that point were just... YAWN. The end scene with the survivors looking out on the town and seeing all the red lights was a good ending. It reminded me a lot of Us - which we will be reviewing this month as well.
END SPOILERS

Sorry if you're here for a non-spoiler review, I'm not giving you a whole lot to go on. Basically, it takes a very long time for anything exciting to happen, and when it does it's over in like one may be two scenes, so honestly not worth the watch. The beginning and back story also doesn't do a whole lot to help the movie along, and the acting isn't all that spectacular. I'm going to give the film a "hated it."
