Simon (Jason Bateman) and his wife, Robyn (Rebecca Hall) move from Chicago into the suburbs to start their lives over. While shopping, they run into one of Simon's old acquaintances from high school, Gordo (Joey Edgerton). Gordo then starts coming around, dropping by their house, leaving them gifts, and starting what Simon calls a "one sided" friendship. Gordo invites them over to his place for dinner and Robyn makes sure that they are there. Upon arrival, the other couple mysteriously cancels last minute and it's just the three of them. Here is where Simon tells Gordo that they can't be friends anymore, and the story spirals downward from there.

Around each corner, the couple are scared that Gordo is going to retaliate against them for the fact that Simon didn't want him around anymore. Some things happen, but it's unclear if it is because of Gordo or if they just believe that it is because of him. Soon Robyn begins to see what happened between Simon and Gordo all those years ago, and how it affected Gordo that made him into the person he is today. She asks Simon to track him down and apologize, but that isn't exactly what happens. After the scene in the parking garage, Simon becomes scared that Gordo may do something to retaliate.

When Robyn finally is able to get pregnant, she has had enough of Simon's bullish personality, and blames him for all the worry and feelings brought up because of the relationship with Gordo. One last gift is left at the door while Robyn is in the hospital after giving birth, and that gift leaves Simon horrible terrified and confused.

I hated how slow the movie went for the first half, but I liked how the film kind of trapped you in a state where you don't know if he is a creep or just a really nice guy. With Gordo stopping by unannounced with gifts so many times, it is definitely hard to tell if he is being a creep, trying to start something bad, or just being a nice person. At some points in the movie I didn't know whether to be scared that he is around or feel bad for him because of the way that he is being treated by Simon.

I liked how Simon's past was brought up because of Gordo and how it added to the story as to why this was happening to him. And I also like the reasoning behind what Gordo did to Simon in the end.

This movie reminded me a lot about Creep. <SPOILER> Though the reason behind what was happening to the young couple was mostly something like a revenge and it didn't end in a murder <END SPOILER>, the creepy factor was definitely there. I felt like I didn't like this movie too much until the very last gift, then it just got real and good after that as everything was revealed and put into place. I'm going to give this movie a "Liked It."
