Third movie (and I would bet the last) in this series and we again don’t see the same human characters. I guess that makes sense, seeing as this is about the apes right? This time around, there’s a rogue military group led by The Colonel (Woody Harrelson) who hates apes and wants them all to be their slaves. Caesar must take his tribe across the mountains and through the desert so that they may live in peace.
Like the other movies, this third film is as slow moving as all the others. You would think that a movie with “war” in the title would be full of action and excitement. Well, there were some moments that were exciting, with the epic explosions and what not. But overall, it was a snooze fest.
The only part I found liking was the introduction to the new ape, who named himself Bad Ape and is played by Steve Zahn. He reminded me of Dobby from Harry Potter so who would not like this ape? Regardless of his scaredy cat personality, he still helped the other apes in the end. I also found the escape scene to be fairly humorful.
The ending was both happy and sad, but I felt it was a good ending for the trilogy. My favorite ape in the series is Maurice (played by karin Konoval). I don’t know why, perhaps his personality and growing love for any human.
This film gets an “okay” rating from me. All of these movies just weren’t as exciting as I would have expected from a sci-fi thriller film. The series itself was a good story, but I would not want to watch any of these movies again. (3/5).
