Starring: Shailene Woodley, Sam Claflin, Jeffrey Thomas
Director: Baltasar Kormakur Runtime: 1 hour, 36 minutes Action | Adventure | Biography | Drama | Romance | 2018 Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin star in this biographical drama about a young couple who embark on a journey across the Pacific with San Diego in mind for their destination. Unfortunately, a massive storm leaves them with a broken boat and they must only drift to the nearest location. The movie itself flips between past and present, with Woodley the main character and the person trying to steer the boat to Hawaii. Adrift is full of thrilling moments as they are asea, love between Tami and Richard, and will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering if they will be rescued before it’s too late. I found myself literally on the edge of the couch with my hands clasped together in tension over the majority of the movie. I thought the acting was phenomenal and the filmography was spectacular. According to IMDB, over 90% of the film was actually filmed at sea and it definitely shows. Woodley and Claflin had great chemistry on screen that made the love story believable. The scenes with the two of them on the boat and even after really hit the feels of both love and sadness for what happened to them. If you are an avid reader, you know I love a good twist in the end, and this movie has that - no spoilers though. I’m going to give this movie a “Loved It.” I thought it was well directed, acted, and filmed and I would definitely want to add this film to my collection and watch it again with my husband next time. I'd also love to read the book that the real Tami wrote (5/5).
