Drama | Romance | Music | 2018

From all the hubbub about this movie I was little wary to watch it. Everyone I heard from that had seen it absolutely loved it... I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who didn't. I didn't love the music, the acting was alright I guess, and I didn't like the plot line at all. Plus it was over 2 hours long which was not pleasing for this type of movie for me. I think the thing that got me on this one, was I wasn't expecting it to be so dramatic and deep. Most musicals are fun, this one was depressing and tragic (which is what they were going for I'm sure). Out of all the movies I've watched in preparation of the Oscars, I'd say this one is low on the list of favorites.

I did think there was good casting for this film though. The way that Ally grows into a star is so very similar to how Lady Gaga grew into her stardom, along with the bad comments about her looks and all that. I don't know if this stuff was actually true for Lady Gaga, but it definitely was believable in the movie with the way her and Bradley Cooper were on screen. I especially made the connection when she was performing on SNL (in the movie) with something much like "Just Dance" rather than her wonderful music where you can actually hear her beautiful singing voice or listen to her piano skills.

I know that Bradley Cooper was the producer and star of this film, but I didn't really like him in his role. His voice really bothered me (does he always talk like that, or was it just like this in the film?). Watching his character spiral downward during the film was tragic, so he played that well.

Last thing I didn't like about the movie was the ending. Though I saw it coming from a mile away, it still wasn't how I would have like the film to end. You know me, I like movies with happy endings or feel good scenes. I'm however glad the adorable dog was still alive in the end. I'm going to give this one an "okay" rating. I can see how some people would like this movie (okay that's actually a lie), and how it got all the Oscar nominations, but I'm not sure if it will win. There were so many other movies that I felt were better acted and directed that I'd like to see when an award. (2/5).
