Shannon: Crazy Rich Asians is just as you’d expect it to be. A romantic comedy with the typical ups and downs, falling outs, and falling back in love. I can see why this film was spawn...

[Double Feature] City of Ember

St. Louis Film Festival Film Review

Violette (Pauline Burlet) among other women in a small village are living lives as best they can, and trying to help their small town flourish in the midst of no men. They’re working hard in the fields, tending to the animals, and basically doing everything so that they stay alive. One day, the women all make an oath with each other that if a man should arrive, they will share him so that the village can continue to grow with children...

[Review] A Simple Favor

When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I immediately was reminded of Pretty Little Liars. From what little the trailer showed us, this fact alone really intrigued me in wanting to see this movie, along with the fact of the two leading actresses. As David said in his All I See Is You review, Lively has been all over the map when it comes to movies ever since Gossip Girl ended. There have been some good ones, Shallows for example, and there have been some bad ones, All I See is You for example. A Simple Favor however...

[Double Feature] Ready Player One

David: Hey guys, I have a confession to make. I like the decade of the 80s quite a lot. I’ve said before it’s my favorite decade for horror films, but there was a lot going on in the 80s. Television, movies...
Shannon: Based on the novel by Ernest Cline, this film dives into the future, 2045 to be exact, when humans have been taken over by electronics. Not taken over in the sense like robots...

[Double Feature] The Girl with all the Gifts

David: The zombie genre is pretty tired right now. After years of having The Walking Dead on TV, along with its spin off in Fear, combined with all the horror movies that feature the undead...
Shannon: For some reason I thought this movie was going to be like Stranger Things... well the whole thing about a young girl living in a science lab because she has telepathic powers and...

[Double Feature] Hunt for the Wilderpeople

David: I’m a pretty big fan of more offbeat comedic movies. Taika Waititi, who we most recently reviewed in Thor: Ragnarok, is a director that continues to make a career out of that...
Shannon: This movie is basically a Moonrise Kingdom, but the romance is replaced with a father-son like relationship growth. So a young, troubled boy goes to live with a foster family and...

[Double Feature] The Host

[Review] A Wrinkle in Time

As the movie starts off, we are shown what kind of father Chris Pine is to Meg (played by Storm Reid). How his love for science and his family keep them together. Honestly, it was really hard for me to imagine Chris Pine in this role, even though I was literally watching it with my own eyes. Well, flash forward to four years later, Meg and Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) are meet Mrs. Which (Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Witherspoon), and Mrs. Who (Kaling). And the group of them go into space to look for their father.

[Review] Red Sparrow

The book that this film is based on was sitting on my table for three weeks unopened, and it stayed that way before I had to return it back to the library. I’m trying to get back into reading, and I have for the most part, just a little too late for Red Sparrow. The story is about Dominika Egorova, a talented and famed ballerina who’s career comes to a shocking hault. To keep her mother from losing medical assistance (I’m assuming she had MS by the acting on this one) he lets her uncle enroll her in Sparrow School where should would become a spy.

Back when I went to see Molly’s Game, I had the opportunity to go see this advanced screening on the same night. In the end, I won the coin toss and we went to see Molly’s Game. Here we are a couple months later, and I’m seeing it anyway because it has been nominated for an Academy Award (Christopher Plummer as a supporting actor). I’m actually surprised Ridley Scott didn’t get a nomination, don’t other people like him?

David: Make no mistake – I think there will be certain people that leave the theater once Alex Garland’s newest science fiction creation reaches its climax. It’s an extremely divisive ending...
Shannon: So many things I want to say, but finding the words is going to be hard. Mostly because I’m still shocked after watching this movie from the strangeness of it. And to warn you...
