[Double Feature] White House Down

12/27/2017

David: Stop me if you know what these movies have in common, besides their director. 2012, Independence Day, White House Down. If you answered that all three movies were good...
Shannon: Generally, a movie keeps me focused by keeping the action non-stop and serving up really intense scenes. White House Down does that, but the entire time I was comparing...

[Review] Father Figures

12/21/2017

Taking a break from the serious movies that I’ve been going to see, this time it’s Father Figures. A comedy which stars Owen Wilson and Ed Helms as they play twin brothers searching for their father. As the movie starts, the two main characters are at a wedding… their mother’s wedding (played by Glenn Close). Peters (Helms) is watching Law and Order and sees the man that who is is father playing a role! He immediately shows his mother and brother and the truth comes out. That man, the one that Peter has always looked up to even though being dead, is not his father.

[Double Feature] The Greatest Showman

David: This is definitely one of those movies that our readers are going to get hit with an initial impression that may change. That’s because if this movie is anything, it’s extremely overwhelming...
Shannon: I was super excited when I got tickets to the advanced screening of The Greatest Showman. This film has been on our DFP watch list ever since David heard about it. And being that it’s...

[Double Feature] White Noise

David: Welcome to the lost color of Red, Green and White weeks here at DFP. Today we’re featuring a thriller from 2005 called White Noise, starring Michael Keaton back between his current...
Shannon: This film isn’t as terrifying as it was back in 2005, when I first saw it. This is because there really isn’t much “white noise” around these days. With our flat screen, high definition TVs...

[Review] Molly's Game

12/19/2017

After a coin toss, it was decided that the advanced screening we were going to see was Molly’s Game. Don’t get me wrong, this was the film I wanted to see in the first place, but there were so many options it was just hard to choose. Molly’s Game stars Jessica Chastain as Molly Bloom. She was a star on the slopes, particularly during the Olympics, until she had a nasty fall that ended her career. Trying to get back on her feet, she took a job for a man who ended up getting her hooked on running underground poker games.

[Double Feature] The Odd Life of Timothy Green

David: Walt Disney may have a reputation for taking movies and making them sappy lovey, everyone-learns-a-lesson-about-themselves-fests (something that scares me to death about their...
Shannon: I’ve always wondered what this movie was actually about. Being a Disney movie, I had a feeling it would be more of a family movie, and most likely include magic. That’s exactly...

[Double Feature] The Green Lantern

David: For those of you that don’t remember, there was a Green Lantern movie once. It came out in 2011, and it starred Ryan Reynolds before he was in both Wolverine Origins...
Shannon: I had thought that I’d seen this movie before, most likely when it was released 6 years ago, but after watching it I can’t tell you a single thing that I remembered. So perhaps I imagined...

[Review] Wonder Wheel

12/14/2017

Picture

I’m always a little hesitant when a movie is just labeled as “drama” because well they always seem either absolutely boring or absolutely annoying the entire time. For Wonder Wheel, it took the annoying frame of mind. Mickey (Justin Timberlake) is a lifeguard on Coney Island in the 50s. He is narrating the story of Humpty (Jim Belushi) and his wife Ginny (Kate Winslet) during one summer that Humpty’s daughter Carolina (Juno Temple) comes home to hide from her ex-husband, the gangster.

[Review] The Shape of Water

12/12/2017

Ever since I’ve heard about this movie many months ago, it’s been on my radar for one that I’ve want to see. Yes, the synopsis sounded really strange (and it is), but it’s a fantastical romance that you can’t just NOT see because it sounds really weird. The Shape of Water tells us the story of a mute woman who works as a maid in a research facility. One day, she forms a relationship with an aquatic creature that is being held and studied at the facility. Needless to say, there is some romance in there and the whole thing turns into somewhat of a thriller.

[Double Feature] A Monster Calls

David: There are quite a few movies out there that are purposely made to tug at your tear strings. For those of us that have watched way too many movies, this is both expected and a bit dreaded...
Shannon: From what I’ve read on Twitter and other movie review blogs, I’ve heard that A Monster Calls is one sad movie. I can see why, the film itself tells the story of a young boy, Conor...

[Double Feature] A Cure for Wellness

David: Holy crap. There’s not too many large budget movies that allow themselves to go so completely and totally crazy. There’s a lot going on in this film, some of which is easy to spot...
Shannon: Two hours and 26 minutes of pure eeriness, horror, and confusion. I still am not sure what the overall plot was and why the things that happened led up to the finale of an ending....
